Tech Trash Recycler Output in Rust

Tech trash recycles into high quality metal and scrap. A standard recycler returns roughly 50% of an item's components; recyclers inside safe zones — Outpost, Bandit Camp and Fishing Village — return about 40%, so the same input yields less.

Calculated — Computed from a versioned dataset — reproducible in the tool below.

The efficiency split is the part most guides leave out, and it changes what you should do with a stack of components. Recycling at Outpost is convenient and safe, but you are paying roughly a fifth of your return for that safety. Recycling at a monument recycler out in the world gives more back and costs you the risk of being there.

For a small quantity of low-value components the difference is not worth a trip. For a full stack of tech trash, the gap is large enough that it is worth recycling at a road-side or monument recycler if you can get there and back.

Tech trash itself is one of the more valuable components in the game because high quality metal is a bottleneck for tier-three crafting. Players who need HQM for a workbench or armored building blocks will take tech trash over almost any other loot of similar rarity.

A practical rule for what to recycle and what to keep: components that go directly into things you are about to build should be kept whole. Components you have no immediate use for should be recycled into scrap, because scrap is universally useful — it researches blueprints, it buys from vending machines, and it never sits dead in a box.

The rounding matters at small quantities. Recycler output is calculated per item and rounded, so recycling ten items at once does not always give exactly ten times the output of recycling one. If you are optimising, recycle in full stacks rather than one at a time.

Our recycler tool shows the output for both efficiency levels side by side, so you can see what a trip to a monument actually buys you before you make it.
