Rust Recycler Calculator: Component and Scrap Output
A standard recycler returns about 50% of an item's crafting components; recyclers in safe zones such as Outpost and Bandit Camp return about 40%. Add items to the calculator to see the exact output.
Recycling is the fastest way to turn road loot into scrap and high quality metal. Components such as tech trash, gears and springs are worth far more broken down than carried back to base, especially early in a wipe.
Safe-zone recyclers cost you some output but remove the risk of being killed on the way out. Monument recyclers give more, but you carry your loot out through contested ground.
The calculator adds up the output of every item you put in, so you can see before a trip whether it is worth the risk.
Scrap is what pays for the tech tree and workbench upgrades, so recycling early in a wipe speeds up everything that follows. A common routine is to run a road loop, recycle the components you do not need for your next craft, and keep only what goes straight into a build.
Recycler efficiency by location
| Recycler location | Efficiency | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Monument or road-side recycler | about 50% | Exposed to other players |
| Outpost | about 40% | Safe zone |
| Bandit Camp | about 40% | Safe zone |
Frequently asked questions
What efficiency does a Rust recycler have?
A standard recycler returns roughly 50% of an item's components. Safe-zone recyclers at Outpost and Bandit Camp return about 40%.
Is it worth recycling in a safe zone?
Yes when you are carrying valuable components and the route to a monument recycler is contested: you lose some output but keep the loot.
Where are recyclers in Rust?
Many monuments have one, including Harbor, Launch Site and the Supermarket, and there are recyclers in the Outpost and Bandit Camp safe zones.
